TAP App

App, tap, go!

The TAP App is available on Android and Apple products.

The TAP LA app lets you purchase and pay your fare right from your smartphone or smartwatch. It’s a safe, easy, and contactless way to pay! Plus, you can transfer your existing TAP card with a pass to the app. Note: A TAP card can’t be transferred to the TAP App if it has an active pass, for example: a partially used 31-Day pass.

And it’s available on most Android and Apple devices. Download the app by searching “TAP LA” in the App Store on your Apple iPhone (iPhone 8 or higher) or Google Play Store on your Android device (version 9 or higher), or use the following links.

Getting set up is easy

  1. From the app, create an account from the home screen.
  2. Select the Cards section and press the “add card” icon on the top left.
  3. Press “Add a TAP Card on Your Phone” and it will allow you to add one “virtual” TAP card to your phone. If you don’t have a physical TAP card, you can also request a virtual card from the app! Note: Reduced Fare and LIFE customers can also add an existing card to their phone.
  4. Follow the prompts to add Stored Value or a pass to your TAP card.
  5. Once your “virtual” TAP card is added, it will be available in the Cards section of the TAP app. Note: A plastic TAP Card will no longer be usable once transferred to the TAP App.

  2. Select the Cards section and press the “Add a TAP Card to Apple Wallet” or press the “add card” icon in the top left.
  3. Follow the prompts to add Stored Value or a pass to your TAP card. Note: Reduced Fare and LIFE customers can also add an existing card to their phone.
  4. Once it’s complete, press “Add to Apple Wallet” and choose which Apple device will use your new card. You can load multiple TAP cards on the Apple version of the app. Note: A plastic TAP Card will no longer be usable once transferred to the TAP App.
  5. Once it is added, it will display in the Cards section of the TAP App and in the Apple Wallet.

Using the app on the bus

Using the TAP app to pay your fare is easy! Hold your phone screen next to the TAP dial when boarding the bus and wait for it to collect your fare. It takes a few seconds and you’re on your way. Note: The TAP App can’t be used as a pass if your phone’s battery dies. Plan ahead if you intend to use the TAP App to pay your fare.
