How to buy your passes and fares
TAP turns paper into plastic – no more waste! From now on all your passes and fares fit onto one reusable TAP card. KEEP IT! A new TAP card costs $2. Keep reusing your original TAP card over and over again and save yourself a little cash.
Buying passes and fares for your TAP card is pretty easy. You can visit any one of our five Foothill Transit Stores and load up your fares there, or you can go online or call 1-866-TAPTOGO (827-8646). What can you load onto your TAP card?
The Cash Purse – Remember the Metrocard? Well, the cash purse works the same way. Foothill Transit TAP cards can be loaded with any amount of cash you want once you reach the $5.00 minimum. Each time you tap your card on the farebox, your fare will automatically be deducted. If you ask nicely, your bus driver will tell you how much is left on your card.
31-Day Pass – Our most popular piece of fare - a TAP card loaded with Foothill Transit's 31-Day Pass allows you unlimited travel for a 31-Day period beginning on the day it is first tapped on the farebox. These passes are available for all Foothill Transit Local, Silver Streak, and Commuter Express lines. Click here to visit our fare chart and see which 31-Day Pass best suits your commute.
Discount 31-Day Passes are available for eligible seniors, persons with disabilities, Medicare Card holders, and students. Please visit your local Foothill Transit Store or call 1-800-RIDE-INFO (743-3463) for eligibility requirements. If you qualify, you can apply for your new TAP photo card at any Foothill Transit Store.
EZ transit pass– The EZ transit pass will eventually be available for TAP cards….but not yet. You can still purchase the original paper EZ transit pass at your local Foothill Transit Store The EZ transit pass is good for travel on 23 transit agencies throughout Los Angeles County, including Foothill Transit.
How to Tap ‘n Go
Step 1: Load up your TAP card
Before you ride, make sure you load your card with cash or passes first. Load up at Foothill Transit Stores or retail outlets, taptogo.net, or 866.TAPTOGO (827.8646). Keep in mind that it takes approximately 48 hours for your newly purchased fares to actually show up on your TAP card – so plan ahead!
Step 2: Tap your TAP card
When boarding, tap your card against the round TAP logo on the farebox located at the front of the bus.
Step 3: Wait for Access
After you tap, listen for a beep and watch for a message showing if your card is valid. If so, the correct fare will automatically be deducted.
Step 4: Ready, Set, Go!
Find your seat and settle in! Easy, no?
How to protect you TAP card
The new TAP card offers something we’ve never been able to provide before – Balance Protection.
Just register your card online at taptogo.net* or call 866.TAPTOGO (827.8646). If your card ends up lost or stolen, you can get a replacement card for just $5.00 that includes the remaining balance of your previous passes and fares already loaded on it.
